Christmas Fatstock Market - Important Announcement
After due consideration we have taken the reluctant decision not to hold any Christmas Fatstocks this year in any of our markets. We know this will be a significant disappointment to many however we have a duty of care to everyone and we feel that the additional risk posed by holding such an event flies in the face of trying to mitigate any unnecessary risk to our staff, vendors and buyers. We feel it would be wholly irresponsible to hold the Christmas Fatstock this year, not only because of the obvious and serious health risks but also because of the additional risk of closing the weekly markets.
By its very nature a Christmas Fatstock will only encourage more people to the market, which we have been explicitly told to avoid. We have been given specific guidance that any Christmas Fatstock “must not become a social gathering”, which goes against everything a Christmas fatstock is all about. With recent market closures due to Covid-19 outbreaks and the real threat of more to follow, we must take every precaution we can to keep our staff safe and our markets open for the benefit of everyone.
We will of course still have plenty of demand for those good butcher type lambs leading up to Christmas and they will continue to be a good trade.
We can assure you that this is a decision that we have not taken lightly and God willing we will certainly make up for it next year. We hope that you fully understand the reasoning behind our decision and we sincerely hope all of our clients remain safe over this difficult period.
