General Remarks and Stipulations

Situation

New Mills Fishery on the River Arrow is a small distance north from the rural village of Pembridge in a secluded rural area. Approach from a class 3 road out of the village, cross over the river bridge, and park in Pembridge Common. Access to New Mills Farm is thereafter on foot.

The Fishery

The Fishery, as identified and edged red on the attached plan, extends to approximately 722 yards double bank and a further 120 yards of true left bank adjoining Pembridge Common.

Normally fished from the true left bank or by wading it offers fast flowing water with a series of pools and ripple sequences interspersed with a number of deeper pools. From the top of the beat known pools are: Weir Pool; Willow Bend; Farm Bridge; Deep Pond; Muddy Bank; and other catches interspersed by grass seed banks with alder, ash and other trees providing shelter.

Stocking

Stocking has previously been allowed but obviously conditional upon consent from the Environment Agency. In September 2016 Wye Usk Foundation carried out an electrofishing survey finding juvenile salmon, brown trout, bullhead, stone loach and minnow. Their survey did not locate any grayling but grayling are known in this river.

There are no particular records available.

Future Prospects

The Fishery, with ongoing maintenance, forms the basis for an excellent wild brown trout and grayling fishery with some ongoing habitat improvement scheme to maximise fishing opportunity by coppicing and clearing any manmade debris etc.

Access

Please note there is no vehicular access from the farm gate entrance to New Mills Farm. Vehicles must be parked in the car park on the common and then walk through the farm entrance gate. The pedestrian access gate shown marked X on the plan (eastern boundary of field 7660) gives pedestrian access on through the true left bank and beyond New Mills Farm a bridge gives access without wading to the true right bank. Pedestrian access is available on both banks of the fishing.

Viewing

The Fishery may be viewed, with these particulars in hand, at any reasonable time. Please respect and close any gates. Please do not take dogs to the water.
