Freehold Fishing Rights on the Cildu Fishery
River Irfon
Llanwrtyd Wells

For sale by Public Auction on Tuesday 4th June 2019 at 6pm at The Hereford Rowing Club (unless sold prior)

An attractive wild trout fishery with occasional salmon later in the season.

Offering tremendous potential for improvement.

Cildu Fishery lies in beautiful unspoilt rural countryside for which the district of Llanwrtyd Wells and Llangammarch Wells is renowned. The river is a reasonable distance from the public highway which means it offers complete privacy and seclusion.

Location and Access

The beat is approached from the main Llangammarch Wells / Llanwrtyd road. From Builth take A483 road to Llandovery, proceed through Beulah and at Llandrindod Wells turn left by the chapel, the Oil for Wales garage and the Bell View Hotel. This road is known as The Ffosse Road.

Stay on this road for approximately 1 mile. On the right hand side you will see the railway line comes close to the road (see picture on particulars).

There is then vehicular access by crossing the first small paddock for a few yards to the other side of the railway line (please exercise extreme caution this line is used and unmanned) where there is then a right to park 2 cars adjoining the railway.

Access is then on foot to the riverbank as shown on the sale plan.

Cildu Fishery

The Fishery provides an attractive single bank stretch of approximately 1078 yards (0.61 miles) together with a short length of about 165 yards of double bank in the centre of the beat on the River Irfon.

Offering a series of small pools with long gravelly runs of fast water it generally has a good gravelly bottom with a reasonable amount of cover, especially in the upper reaches.

The Irfon is a noted trout river but also runs of salmon are often taken from the river late in the season and also grayling.
There is currently a strict catch and release rule for all wild atlantic salmon and the fishing generally is under the rules of the Environment Agency and the Wye Usk Foundation General Code of Practice.

The grayling fishing is of good quality and quantity. Brown trout are usually of good average size, often over 1lb or larger.
This rare opportunity to acquire water of this quality and variety of sport under different conditions throughout this length for either trout or salmon which rarely comes to the market is now offered for sale by the owners.

Fishing Hut

There is a small fishing hut in unmodernised form.

Please note the fishing hut is not included in the sale. It belongs to, and is sited on, land belonging to the neighbouring farmer who may be willing to negotiate a rental with any prospective Purchaser.

Fishing Records

It has not been fished on this beat for some 4 or 5 years and regrettably no current records are available.

The Fishery may be viewed at any reasonable time with these particulars in hand but please respect and close all gates. Please do not take dogs to the water or disturb the local farmer's sheep or livestock.
